National Book Lovers Day

November 2nd is National Book Lovers Day; a 24-hour period to hang out in your favorite nook with a cup of tea or hot chocolate and indulge in the romantic lives of two of your favorite characters.  Or perhaps you have a favorite sunny spot in your backyard where you can get lost in the adventures of FBI Detectives, and see if you can figure out who-dun-it before they do!  Whatever your preferred genre, National Book Lovers Day was created to encourage reading and to share the love of the activity with your friends and family.

Here at the Lenawee District Library, we’ve compiled a list of activities that we think would be absolutely perfect for November 2nd.

     -          Host your own book club and discuss one of your favorite books
     -          Have a book tasting party
     -          Go to the library with your family
     -          Participate with your friends in a book swap
     -          Dress up as your favorite book character and reenact a scene from their novel
     -          Reread your favorite children’s book
     -          Gather your grandchildren and read to them
     -          Create your own sock-puppets based on characters from a book and put on a play
     -          Have a lazy reading day; make your favorite home-cooked meal or dessert and curl up with a blanket
     -          Listen to an audio-version of a book you’ve been meaning to read but haven’t had the time to do so
     -          Get in contact with your favorite author and tell them how much their work means to you
     -          Visit your local library and use a service that you haven’t yet used (MelCat, Family Storytime, etc)

What activities do you think would be a great way to celebrate being a book-lover?!  Let us know!  And make sure to check back tomorrow to find out what books made our patrons fall in love with reading; and make sure to leave a comment below about what book(s) made reading so important in your life.
